TomoVision License Policy

License Policy
You do not need a license to evaluate our products.

All our software can be run without licenses. This enable you to test if the software really answer your needs and fulfill your expectations before you buy it. Without licenses, the software will have some limitations. The limitations imposed on the non-licensed TomoVision products are:

  • For DICOMatic's conversion modules: The converted images will have a "demo" watermark, and the patient name and ID as well as the study ID will not be present in the converted image (the patient name is "DICOMatic demo", the patient and study ID are 0.
  • For DICOMatic's readOmatic module: You can only read 5 images from your archive each session. If you want to read more than 5 images, you have to exit the program and start it over again. The images will be named "" to "". You can only save the images in "native" format. If you want to have the images in DICOM format, you will have to drag&drop them on the DICOMatic conversion module by hand (with a license, this can be done directly through readOmatic's interface).
  • For DICOMatic's DICOM_Watch module: the program will automatically shut down after 30 minutes.
  • For sliceOmatic: A "demo" watermark will be displayed in the viewing windows and the program will not let you save any results.

All of these limitation are enough to prevent the software to be used in day-to-day operation, but not enough to prevent you from thoroughly testing the software's capabilities and compatibilities with your systems.


The Dongle
TomoVision products use 2 layers of protections. A hardware layer, provided by the HASP (Hardware Against Software Piracy) dongles from Aladdin, and a software layer consisting of encrypted license activation codes stored in the dongle's memory.

A dongle is a hardware device connected to either the USB or the printer port. The dongle used by TomoVision used the USB port and has its own timer and memory. All the information needed to license the products are included in the dongle, so it's easy to move the application's licenses to a new computer: just plug the license dongle in the new system!

If the dongle is not present on the client's computer, the software will run in "demo" mode and some functions will not be available.


The Licenses
For each of TomoVision's products, you will have an Update License and at least one Module License.

The Module License
TomoVision's products are licensed by modules. Each modules have a distinct Module License. A Module License can be permanent or temporary (usually 30 days). The expiration date of a temporary license is based on the internal clock of the dongle. The local date and time of your computer have no influence on the license's expiration.

The Update License
This license will enable you to update the version of the software. The Module Licenses are valid for all new versions of the software up to the date specified by the Update License. If you install a version of the software that is newer than the expiration date of your Update License, the Module License will not be valid for this version. You will have to either renew your update contract, or revert to an older version of the software.


Renewing your update license
The update contract must be uninterupted. This means that is you failed to renew your update contract for a few years and want to remedy the situation, you will have to renew for a period that extend from the end of your previous contract.

In some cases, it may be more economical to buy a new license instead.


Defective, broken or lost license dongle
TomoVision will replace any defective or broken dongle, but it will only replace lost or stolen dongles once, and even then, only if the update contract is up-to-date.

Defective dongle
If you dongle stopped working properly, please advise us and we will ship you a new dongle with a 30 days license along with a return envelope so that you can return us the defective dongle. We will email you the permanent licenses for the new dongle once we receive the defective one.

Broken dongle
If you broke your dongle, we will replace it but we will have to charge you $100 for the new dongle and its shipping. We will ship you a new dongle with a 30 days license along with a return envelope so that you can return us the broken dongle. We will email you the permanent licenses for the new dongle once we receive your payment and the broken dongle.

Lost dongle
If you lose your dongle, we will only replace it once per client, however, be aware that if you had a DICOMatic license of a version anterior to 2.0, it will be replaced with a 2.0 license with 100,000 or 400,000 tokens depending on the type of license you had. If you had a sliceOmatic license, you need to have a currently valid update license. We will charge you $100 for the new dongle and its shipping. We will ship you a new dongle with a 30 days license. We will email you the permanent licenses for the new dongle once we receive your payment.
